We have safely weathered a couple of the outer bands of Hurricane Hanna. Looks like the Channel 13 meteorologists had an accurate prediction for this morning, and fortunately we did not have to endure a rainy trunk and tailgate swap meet. The Board made the correct decision to postpone today’s event and focus on next Saturday, August 1 for our swap meet. If you have just joined in, we will resume plans for another attempt, providing the weather cooperates, one week from today. Located at Mike’s Ice House near EPO’s rear parking lot, 8746 Lipan Road, one block east of the Fondren – Lipan Road intersection, the swap meet will be held in front and rear parking lots, with overflow in EPO’s rear lot just across the street. Please do not park on the grassy area near the outdoor beer garden. Registration fee will be $7.00 for breakfast and you will receive a ticket for the drawing for over $100.00 in door prizes to be redeemed for purchases at Electronic Parts Outlet. Registration and meal tickets start at 7:30 AM, but I ask that you withhold sales & swapping until 8 AM so we can get settled in. Mike’s will provide all you can eat breakfast around 8:30 – 9:00. Please stay tuned as this is hurricane weather and I have said in the past, “the weather here can change on a dime”. By Thursday, July 30, we should have a good idea as to what the weather will be like on the following weekend and issue a GO or NO GO as we did a couple of days ago. Mr. and Mrs. Harris were notified of our cancellation and look forward to hosting us next Saturday. COVID 19 is still haunting us – When you arrive: WEAR A MASK and OBSERVE SAFE DISTANCES! We don’t want anyone to spread or catch this terrible virus from attending our first gathering since early spring. Hand sanitizer will be available – USE IT! In the meantime, keep safe and pray for good weather on August 1. We have two regular meetings scheduled at Bayland Park Community Center this year, August 22 and September 26 as of this writing. Again, stay tuned should these dates be changed due to the ongoing pandemic. I will stay in close contact with Bayland, a Harris County Facility, and will notify all of any schedule changes – we are taking things one week at a time – no explanation needed.
